A simple resistive divider network to dampen the output of an audio amplifier 16db.
16db-speaker-attenuator
A small passive network that knocked a nagging 6kHz spike out of a Logitech Z-5500. Fit one on each of the five channels and the peak drops 16dB, no matter the volume.
What's in it
- A KiCad PCB.
- A resistive divider network (6.8, 1.6, 33, 150, 5100 and 750 ohm resistors).
- Screw terminals in and out.
- A 3D-printed half-enclosure.
The signal path
Audio comes in on the screw terminal and passes through a resistive divider. The series and shunt resistor values set the 16dB cut, so the whole signal, including the 6kHz peak, comes out quieter and flatter. I tuned the values on the bench; the math alone was not enough.
