Just a ESP8266 with some power shift registers to drive LED strips and make a clock.
LED-Strip-clock
An internet-connected driver board for a huge LED-strip clock. A Wemos D1 mini pulls the time from NTP, keeps a DS3231MZ RTC warm, and fires six 7-segment displays through TPIC6B595 power shift registers.
What's on the driver board
- A Wemos D1 mini (ESP8266).
- Six 5611BH 7-segment displays.
- Six TPIC6B595 power shift registers.
- A DS3231MZ RTC and INA219 current sensor.
- A 74HCT244 level shifter.
- An L7805 regulator.
The data path
The ESP8266 gets time from NTP, then shifts six 7-segment digit patterns out over serial to the daisy-chained TPIC6B595s. A 74HCT244 steps the 3.3V signals up to 5V for the registers. The DS3231MZ keeps time across reboots. NTP is primary, but the RTC covers the gap when the network is slow to come up.
