Tasmotize IKEA VINDRIKTNING

The IKEA VINDRIKTNING measures PM2.5 but keeps the number to itself. This project wires its particle sensor to an ESP8266 running stock Tasmota, giving you the readings over WiFi and MQTT for Home Assistant or another domotica hub. The firmware change is one override flag. Upstream Tasmota stays your baseline.

What goes in the case

  • The ESP-12E rides on the fan, held by double-sided tape.
  • An AMS1117-3.3 on the PCB. Isolated with kapton.
  • D5 to the sensor's REST pin, through a 1K series resistor.
  • A stock-Tasmota compile with `USE_VINDRIKTNING` enabled via `user_config_override.h`.

The signal path

Serial bytes come off the sensor's TX pin and reach D5 through the 1K resistor. Set the module to Generic (18), map GPIO14 to VINDRIKTNING, and Tasmota parses it. I skipped a level shifter. Both sides run 3.3 V, so that single resistor is just protection. Readings leave as MQTT telemetry. The I2C pins stay free for more sensors in the same case.
